FRENCH FAUX BOIS GARDEN SEAT |
Description: |
|
A substantial early 20th century century French faux bois garden seat. Beautifully detailed with the back and sides made to resemble natural wood.
Faux bois (literally "false wood") was an art form originating in Europe well over a century ago. It derived from the rustic or naturalistic style that was finding increased popularity with the public at the time.
In creating pieces of this type several successive layers of a cement and aggregate mix are applied by hand around an iron armature. Detailing and scoring are the final steps in the process.
