LIFE SIZE CAST STONE VENUS |
Description: |
|
Clasical life size statue of the Venus Genitrix, by the Brussels firm: Blaton-Aubert, which produced high quality reconstructed stone garden ornaments in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Circa: 1885-1905 Founded in 1865, Blaton-Aubert was originally a construction firm specializing in architectural cast stone as well as a wide range of sculptures, fountains, urns, planters and other ornaments for parks and gardens, including a number of decorations for the Brussels Botanical Garden in the 1880’s. At the close of the 19th century as the use of reinforced concrete in construction began to spread, the firm’s focus shifted to larger construction projects.
The original of the Venus Genitrix, now in the Louvre, was discovered near Naples in 1520, and was itself a Roman copy of a Greek bronze created in the fifth century, and was part of Louis XIV’s collection at Versailles.
