RARE PETITE SIZE FAUX BOIS GARDEN SEAT |
Description: |
|
Charming and difficult to come across is this smaller size French early 20th century faux bois garden bench. Extremely sturdy the sweeping back is supported by the end and central vertical support rails all in the form of rustic branches. Faux bois (literally “false wood”) was an art form originating in Europe well over a century ago. It derived from the naturalistic or rustic style that was finding increasing popularity with the public at that time. In creating pieces of this type several successive layers of wet cement aggregate are applied and built up around an iron armature. Detailing and scoring to provide the natural wood effects are the final steps in the process.
