LARGE FRENCH CAST IRON JARDINIÈRE |
Description: |
|
An exceptionally large, beautifully decorated and extremely rare mid-19th century oval cast iron jardinière, the body with crossbanding design and raised mascaron faces sits on bold paw feet. While there is no foundry mark on this piece, we have had the identical style in a longer and somewhat more narrow form that was stamped by the J.J. Ducel Foundry. Additionally, a similar design in a slightly smaller form appears in an early Ducel catalog. Circa: 1860
The J. J. Ducel foundry was founded in 1810, operated until 1878, producing some of the finest French cast iron garden ornaments of its time.
