A fine pair of mid-19th century English cast stone finials with draped garlands held by four lion heads. Attributed to Austin & Seeley.
Felix Austin began his business as an artificial stone maker in 1828 using Portland cement, broken stone, pounded marble and coarse sand. Around 1840 he entered into partnership with John Seeley who had trained at the Royal Academy Schools and also made an artificial stone.
Condition: Good and solid structural condition with weathered surface, replaced top point of each finial and losses in a small section of decorative trim around the socle of one finial.
