Our Lady of Lourdes

A beautifully rendered English cast stone statue of Our Lady of Lourdes.

In 1858, Bernadette Soubirous a young peasant girl from Lourdes France (later St. Bernadette), had a vision of a petite and peaceful Madonna who appeared to Bernadette in a local grotto while Bernadette was collecing firewood. The veracity of her vision gradually gained acceptance with the church which in 1863 commissioned the sculptor Joseph-Hugues Fabisch of Lyon to create a statue for the shrine established in grotto. The story ultimately became the basis for the 1943 movie the Song of Bernadette.
