Round French Faux Bois Table

Four natualistic twisted branches with exceptional detail form the base that supports a deep round top with bark edging on this striking French faux bois table.

Circa: 1950

Faux bois which literally means “false wood”, was a popular style of garden ornament and furniture in France from the early 19th century through the mid-20th century. Probably a more durable derivation of “grotto” style the form also reflects the “rustic” or naturalistic style popular in the late 19th century.

Generally constructed of “ciment” around an iron rod armature the style encompasses seating, tables and planters and can be painted or unpainted.
