An extremely rare and unusually large mid-19th century French blue decorated enameled cast iron conservatory planter, with well modeled lion head handles, signed C.H. Paris & Cie, Le Bourget.
Although produced near Paris, this elegant and decorative form with the blue and white or occasionally blue white and red enamel over iron is often referred to as “Rouen style” likely because the decoration in both color and form is similar to 18th century Rouen enameled pottery.
This wonderful jardinière is excellent condition with the crisp blue hand applied cobalt color showing relatively little wear. With later adjustable copper liner.
